American author, scholar, and screenwriter — an M.F.A. and Ph.D..
American author C.M. Dinsmore has ventured beyond borders. Exploring the fringes of narratology and digital media. His storytelling is rooted in the filmmaker within him but fate steered him toward the realm of literature and prose.
"This background has enriched his storytelling, adding layers of complexity and depth to his works."
CM Dinsmore's debut novel, The Melody That Binds (2023), is a powerful WWII historical fiction narrative set within the Asia Pacific theater beginning in 1945. It follows a Japanese soldier whose flight into the Philippine jungle leads to an unexpected journey of atonement, forgiveness, and love.
The novel was inspired by the visuals and drama of Kurosawa's films and is set within the framework of a Robinsonade tale, where views of nature and society are akin to Thoreauvian thinking. Available in ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audiobook
CM Dinsmore's undergraduate formation in cinema never left his work. The screenwriting practice includes both original screenplays and literary adaptations. His flagship project, Christabel, completes Samuel Taylor Coleridge's famous unfinished Gothic poem (1816), with an original score by composer Albert Syeles.
The project has its own dedicated website at christabel.site, where the full synopsis, the original Coleridge poem, and project details are available. Scripts and treatments available upon request.
